Cleaning & Drapery Mezzanine Case Study
(Storage Expansion)
Cleaning & Drapery Zone, a growing dry cleaning company, contacted Grace Material Handling company in July of 2005 for a consultation regarding their increasing storage needs. Efficiently utilizing their existing space was essential as business increased; moving to a larger facility was not an option at that time. A team of experienced and knowledgeable consultants from GMH put together a mezzanine proposal that would enable Cleaning & Drapery Zone to expand their storage by 100%, adding approximately 1600 square feet of floor space.
Various special concerns were overcome in order to satisfy the building's restrictions and the customer's needs. Grace Material Handling also assisted with the permit process and provided stamped and sealed approval drawings for the State of New Jersey. A low profile mezzanine structure was proposed to fit wall to wall around numerous opening such as windows, doors, piping etc. Two staircases were utilized and bar grating was chosen as an option for the floor in order to avoid the cost of installing additional sprinklers in the building.
Unlike new construction, this project needed to be completed with minimal disruption to business in the shortest possible timeframe. Grace Material Handling coordinated a morning delivery of the material (via flatbed trailer) to allow its installation crew to unload (much of it by hand) and completed the installation of the mezzanine within a week.
A year later as Cleaning & Drapery Zone was emerging predominantly as a fire restoration company, once again additional space was required. A smaller mezzanine, approximately 800 square feet, was provided and installed by Grace Material Handling Co. in an adjacent room. The owner of Cleaning & Drapery did not hesitate bringing in GMH for the second mezzanine; not only was he satisfied with the original mezzanine project but had continued to turn to GMH for his other material handling needs including lockers, storage bins, utility carts and other miscellaneous items.
