Computer Associates Storage Rack Case Study
(Archive Design and Relocation)
Computer Associates (CA) is one of the world's largest technology management software providers. Their software products are used to unify and simplify complex IT environments in a secure way in order to enhance business results.
During the 3rd quarter of 2004 Grace Material Handling (GMH) was contacted to evaluate plans to relocate a sizeable archiving facility to an adjacent building. During our initial meeting we were advised that the new facility would increase available archiving space by more than 30 percent. Accordingly, GMH would be required to supply 600 linear feet of additional racking. In addition, we were advised that current township code would require CA to increase all new aisle widths by 20 percent.
The existing archive system was reconfigured to integrate with the new design, incorporating the required wider aisles. New components were ordered to integrate with the existing system and implement the new design layout. New rack components were installed first, allowing the archive files to be transferred to their final location without further staging. It was essential to complete this without disrupting the normal flow of business. The entire project (reconfiguration and reinstallation) took less than four weeks to successfully complete.
